5 Super-foods to Fight Prostate Cancer

It is known as a silent disease and we have everything to fight prostate cancer.

Every year, about five thousand men die from prostate cancer and is the leading cause of death from cancer among men. According to the American Cancer Society, “the exact cause of prostate cancer is still unknown, so it is really hard to prevent. There are risk factors such as age, race and family history that cannot be controlled.”

However, there are measures that could reduce their risk as physical activity, nutrition and controlling the body weight. Poor diet can cause this disease at a very young age. Doctors and nutritionists suggest a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein and fiber to counter or reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Here are some foods that men can eat to protest this cancer.

1. Broccoli

In early 2011, scientists discovered that the broccoli has biochemical basis that can fight cancer. The key is its high content of isothiocyanates. The p53 gene , also known as the “guardian of the genome”, is responsible for maintaining healthy cells and prevent the abnormal growth of cancer. Isothiocyanates in broccoli are able to remove defective p53 gene and help healthy proteins to suppress tumor development.

2. Soya

The American Cancer Society notes that soy consumption is associated with lower risk of developing prostate cancer. Soya is an important source of vitamins, proteins, minerals, vegetable fibers, lipids and is flavones.

3. Tomato

It is rich in lycopene, substance with a high capacity antioxidant that prevents cell degeneration resulting in cancer, especially the prostate, says A lberto Fernández Gutiérrez, director of the Center for Research and Development of Functional Food (CIDAF) Technology Park of Health Sciences of Granada.

Aloe vera juice can fight the initial phase of cancers such as lung, pancreas and most importantly the prostate. It is also believed to help in treatments of chemotherapy to cure mouth sores, stomach and intestine. It is rich in germanium which protects the immune system, explains Francisco Macías.

Beans are high in fiber and vegetable protein that can fight prostate cancer. According to American Cancer Society, consumption of handful of beans reduces the risk of any kind of cancer.

According to scientists, to fight prostate cancer, men should reduce eating foods that are high in calcium, such as, dairy products.
